1000BULBS.COM DISCONTINUES DIMMABLE CFLs BUT WE CARRY THEM

COMPARE AND SAVE ON YOUR ENERGY COSTS!

Save up to 50 watts of energy per bulb by replacing your incandescent 60-70 watt flood lamps in your recessed lighting with energy-efficient, long-life, cold-cathode flourescent (CCFL) 18 watt lamps. Can you tell the difference in illumination?

At two years the installation of 6 CCFLs pays off for itself and continues to increase the savings dramatically each year during the 25,000 hour lifespan of the bulbs, even with the higher initial bulb costs. Compare the savings per year below. The table is based on leaving the lights on for 5 hours per day.

3 year costs for 6-65 watt bulbs

3 year costs for 6 18-watt CCFLs
6 x 65 watts = 390 watts   6 x 18 watts = 108 watts
5 x 390 watts = 1,950 watts per day   5 x 108 watts = 540 watts per day
1,950 x 365 = 711,750 watts per year   540 x 365 = 197,100 watts per year
711,750/1000 = 712 kWs per year   197,100/1000 = 197 kWs per year
712 kW x $.10 = $71.20 electricity   197 kW x $.10 = $19.70 electricity
750 hour life span

25,000 hour life span
$3.98 x 6 = $23.88 bulb costs   $27.95 x 6 = $167.70 bulb costs
First Year Incandescent Costs
5hr/dayx365=1825hr/750x$23.88 = $58.10 $58.10 - $23.88 = $34.22
Initial bulb cost + Add on + Elec = total cost
$23.88 + $34.22 + $71.20 = $129.30

First Year CCFL Costs
Initial bulb cost + Add on + Elec = total
$167.70 + $19.79 = $187.49
Second Year Incandescent Costs
1825hr/yearx2=3650/750x$23.88 = $116.21 $116.21 - $23.88 = $92.33
Initial bulb cost + Add on + Elec = total cost
$23.88 + $92.33 + $142.40 = $258.61

Second Year CCFL Costs
Initial bulb cost + Add on + Elec = total
$167.70 + $0.00 + $39.58 = $207.28
Third Year Incandescent Costs
1825hr/yearx3=5475/750x$23.88 = $174.32 $174.32 - $23.88 = $150.44
Initial bulb cost + Add on + Elec = total cost
$23.88 + $150.44 + $213.60 = $387.92

Third Year CCFL Costs
Initial bulb cost + Add on + Elec = total
$167.70 + $0.00 + $59.29 = $226.99
    Savings after 3 years
$387.92 - $226.99 = $160.93

Welcome

At BetterBulb.com we have an array of energy efficient lighting including LED (light emitting diode) and CCFL (cold cathode compact fluorescent) technologies and systems to meet your lighting and energy needs, both residential and commercial.

LED Bulb Our lighting tecnology has unique advantages over incandescent bulbs because they can save you in energy costs and also protect the environment. LED lighting draws less watts then incandescent bulbs so they reduce energy and bulb replacement costs. They have extremely long bulb lives – up to 40,000 hours. CCFL bulbs have unique advantages over CFL bulbs and last up to 25,000 hours. Because both bulbs are run cooler they operate more efficiently and greenhouse gas emissions can be cut significantly.

LED Bulbs

LED bulbs are available in both screw type and pin type bases in a variety of brightnesses and wattages. Also check out our specialty lamps including under-counter LED lighting available in two convenient lengths. See our product page for more information.

What's With Cathode Bulbs? I Thought This was an LED Site

Bethesda, MD—July 17, 2007—When I started BetterBulb, I wanted to have the word "LED" in the title, but I also wanted to leave room for technologies that made sense. Although, cold cathode bulbs are still fluorescent, they contain much less mercury and last up to four times longer the CFL bulbs with a life of up to 25,000 hours.

Although slightly less efficient then the most efficient CFLs, cold cathode fluorescents (CCFL's) have the following additional advantages:

  • Low cost for long life - better payback then LEDs
  • Bulbs unaffected by on/off cycles
  • Available in various shapes and sizes
  • Not available in bright focus LEDs
  • Dimmabble
  • Lower operating temperatures and less heat the CFL's
  • Instant on
  • Less flicker then CFL

Prices for CCFLs are slightly higher then CFLs but much less expensive than LEDs
